Paladin, the distributor, is going to release "Blood Done Sign My Name" on February 19, 2010, in about eighteen cities across the country. They estimate that it will start out on a hundred screens or so. I think it will be in most of the cities in North Carolina, and also New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Baltimore, and other places. It's a terrific movie. And I don't think the book author typically feels that way. Jeb Stuart and his talented crew did a great job. I've screened it twice in North Carolina to absolute raves. I look forward to seeing how the rest of the country responds.

I am in the church choir actually singing background for Miss Mary. The scene was filmed at St. Stephen's AME Zion Church in Gastonia NC. I am very excited and can hardly wait until the film is released. I hope that it will be this year(2009). I wore the big afro wig.

Thanks for the response! If it helps, I think I was the youngest bailiff there, being 20 when we filmed those scenes. Looking forward to seeing what your producer might find out...

Hi Matt,

I think I remember the scene you mentioned—but it hard to be sure, there is a LOT happening in the courtroom scene! As far as updates, no news from this end: my producer has not been in touch with the director Jeb recently, but I will send her a reminder email. —Jesse

It seems that I am in the same boat as a lot of people. I was also a courtroom baliff and I've been looking for updates on this film. I know it's been a few months since you've seen this, but I was wondering you remember a short scene with baliff uncuffing the defendants in a back room before the trial. Another scene I was in was when I pull Robert Teel/Nick Searcy (the older, father defendant) away from his son in front of the courtroom. Wasn't sure if any of this made it to the final cut, but curious about it. Anything you know or remember would be great. Thanks!

Hi Bob,

Congratulations! I don't remember your character exactly, since I have only screened the movie once; however, the courtroom scene is really powerful, and I'm sure your part helped it along.

I have no news to report, but I ask our VFX producer every few weeks about the film. I'll be sure to report here any interesting news or tidbits. —Jess

Just discovered your site a few days ago while surfing to find a release date for BDSMN. I was juror #2 (second from left in the back row.) I did my best to put on my meanest look throughout. How did I do?

The best part of being in the movie was getting to know the Tysons, including Vernon, Tim and Tim's sister Julie, who all "served" as jurors. They are truly wonderful people. In fact, all but a couple of us jurors were Tim's friends. I was told I got elevated to this "featured extra" part(Translate: $10 per day "bump") when one of his friends couldn't make it: My special qualifying talent was being able to stick around for three days!

I'd like to get on a listserve that will notify when the film is to be released. I am subscribing to comments on this site in hopes that you will make that notification and for the opportunity to read more comments from folks with connections to BDSMN.
