Last week I went to a screening of “Blood Done” at the iOFilm facility here in Los Angeles. After a short intro by the director Jeb Stuart, we watched the screen version of the film: it looks great. The story is interesting, and our VFX were pretty transparent for the most part. Fun movie to work on, and worth seeing.
Congrats to your son! It is a very good film with a great story and the acting was impressive. It really is an important piece of history that few know about, myself included.
Considering it is not a visual effects film, there was a fair amount of work done to enhance the story without distracting. Lets all hope Jeb pulls together another great film soon!
I am dying to see this movie. As the author of the book upon which it is based, I could hardly be more interested. Can you give more details? There are many of us out on the east coast who have no had a chance to see it and are waiting with bated breath. Any juicy morsels? Interesting critiques? Special performances? Hi Tim, really great to hear from you. I have to say, I am surprised and impressed that “Blood Done” has attracted attention to my site, considering I (loosely) keep this up for myself and visual effects-related posts. Very cool!
Considering you lived through the story, I am SURE you are dying to see it. I doubt you will be disappointed; the acting is fantastic, especially Ricky Schroeder (as Vernon Tyson) and Nate Parker (as Ben Chavis). I imagine it will be a strange experience to see someone playing your mother, father, brother and YOU on screen! As a whole, all of the actors did a fantastic job.
The scenery was nicely shot and in my personal interest, I thought the VFX was very transparent. In case you are wondering, we created a lot of digital fire, explosions and burned down the tobacco factory. We also did major crowd replication for the final scenes at the Raleigh courthouse, turning 50 extras into 1,000. Jeb and his team were a pleasure to work with, and were really excited to work with us to enhance the film.
As far as prospects, I can’t profess to know much about it. I know Jeb and his team have worked very hard on the film, and I am sure they will be pushing it out into the marketplace as best as they can. I certainly enjoyed working on it and watching it, and I do hope that people get to see the film.

Jesse- Thanks for the posting. I’ve added a google search feature to send me daily listings of anything related to this feature. I live in Wesley Chapel, NC and was an extra on the set (as were many many people) so like Mr. Tyson I am very excited about the release. One quick & selfish question… do you recall seeing any of the sheriff’s/baliff’s at the entrance/door to the courtroom when the verdict was read? It was an intense scene and I was wondering if I made it through to the film or ended up being cut? The scene was memorable and I thought the shot of one of the main actors walking out of the courtroom (almost brushing by the baliff at the door) would/should have made it through editing… do you recall? Thanks for indulging me on this. The film is a piece of NC history and I am excited (hopeful) that my children will enjoy my very small part of making it.

Congrats on being part of “Blood Done”. I am not sure about that particular scene you are talking about: sorry! At that point, I was pretty wrapped up in the story & the verdict, so I would have to see it again to notice if that particular scene was there. I do remember bailiffs in the room though, so there is a good chance that it made it through editorial.

My son played the character “Jeff Daniels” in BDSMN so it was great to hear some updates on the finality of the film. Can’t wait to see the visual effects in this film. I am sure it all looks great.
